Baker's Bay
Less than 150 miles from the Florida coast, and located on the northern end of Great Guana Cay in the Abaco Islands of the Bahamas, the Baker's Bay Golf & Ocean Club is a highly amenitized residential, golf and marina community crafted by Discovery Land Company of San Francisco.
The Baker's Bay Club is being designed to seamlessly blend with Great Guana Cay's relatively pristine environment. There are more than six miles of shoreline, spectacular beaches and living coral reefs just offshore, offering superlative opportunities for scuba diving, snorkeling and fishing. The Sea of Abaco, studded with offshore cays is a fabulous cruising area for yachtsmen, adding to the aesthetic style and unique ambiance of the exotic Baker's Bay surroundings.
A deepwater channel (dredged by previous developers) makes Baker's Bay one of the few places in the Abacos able to accommodate large yachts. The club itself will offer fine and casual dining, beach service, a resort-style swimming pool, spa and fitness facilities, tennis and volleyball courts and a variety of water sports. An environmentally sensitive golf course designed by Tom Fazio is a centerpiece of the community.
Residential options include custom home sites - from one-third to more than one acre; beach cottages; bungalows facing a mangrove forest; and Bahamian styled villas. The 180-slip marina features a commercial village patterned after Caribbean sea ports of the 1700s. A luxury villa inn provides additional accommodation.
All of these facilities have been carefully designed and scaled to fit comfortably within the natural environment of Great Guana Cay. They are served by a central sewerage and solid waste system, as well as a water purification and recycling plant.
Consistent with the intended environmental sensitivity of the development, the golf course slopes inland to prevent nutrient runoff into the sea and is irrigated by recycled water circulated through lined ponds. Proper coastal setbacks will be strictly observed, and access throughout the property will be gained via roads that are narrow and winding to take advantage of the natural terrain of the property. Native plants are being preserved and propagated, invasive plants removed, and an important mangrove system set aside as a nature preserve. |
